From the Editor: Living Large
Summer's most extravagant Colorado homes showcase a mix of bold and breezy design.
At 18,000 square feet, our 2025 Home of the Year certainly fits the literal definition of living large—but it’s much more than its substantial size. The beautifully designed home in Lone Tree was created for an active family, their friends, the children’s teammates, and church groups to enjoy. And it was designed with an impressive list of amenities: an outdoor pool and spacious patio, a basketball half court (which doubles as a volleyball and pickleball court), a golf simulator, a home theater, a two-story rock-climbing wall and a soccer field.
But in addition to the home’s extras and space for large numbers of people, the homeowners wanted to create a home that was comfortable for their day-to-day lives. The design team at Kimberly Timmons Interiors worked with them throughout, from the conceptual stage before the project broke ground to such final touches as choosing picture frames. And they mixed things up by adding modern, sleek elements to the home’s transitional charm. The homeowners are enjoying their dream house and finding joy in sharing it with others. At the end of the day, they are clear on what it means to them, more than its grand scale, comfortable furnishings and amazing views, saying that a home is built on “love, faith, sacrifice, respect and sharing,” at right.
Also in this issue, we’ll see a designer who packs over-the-top personality into a smaller space with Gina D’Amore’s creation of a home office/wine cellar combination for her wine connoisseur client where 4:30 p.m. each day is wine o’clock; a historical home remodel in Boulder designed for the homeowners’ love of entertaining; a 1976 ranch house renovated for an empty-nester couple with a pool for her, a garden for him; and a new lakefront house in Berthoud tailored to a homeowner who wanted a Martha’s Vineyard beach home vibe…but in Colorado. The homes in the issue are about architecture and interior design—but they are also about lifestyle.
Living large is more about an attitude than size—try it out!
