With its unforgettable wood slat exterior feature, this architectural gem in Denver’s coveted Washington Park neighborhood has become known as the “home on the park” by many Denverites.

Designed by architect Carlos Alvarez and interior designer Carolyn Morris of Alvarez Morris Architectural Studio, and constructed by Stephen Stone and Matthew Pierce of Character Builders Colorado, the residence boasts all-steel construction fashioned with a stylishly recognizable A-frame element. The wood slabs, in addition to the deck that surrounds the outdoor pool, are crafted of mahogany.

But it isn’t just its design that’s made this home famous; it also boasts celebrity owners. The Wash Park abode belongs to Joe King, the lead guitarist of rock band The Fray, and his wife and actress Candice Accola. The couple worked closely with Alvarez and Morris to create their custom home on the park.

Signs of musicianship and celebrity life are peppered throughout the chic, modern home’s interior design—light-filled spaces, vintage white cedar wood ceilings, exposed brick walls, schoolhouse lighting, concrete mosaic tile inlays imported from Mexico, and burnished brass plumbing fixtures, just to name a few.

The house features over 6,700 square feet with five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Inspiration from the home stemmed from a common accessory found throughout New Orleans.

“The house was designed as an abstraction of the gas lanterns that you see in New Orleans, a city Joe and his wife love very much,” says Alvarez. “It has components of the gritty city and a fresh and modern interpretation of such lanterns. The house will glow in the park at night as lanterns do all night in New Orleans.”

Further accenting the home, a private pool, centered on the back patio, can be used year-round.

One of the residence’s most stunning features is its rooftop deck with panoramic views of the mountains, Wash Park, and the lake.
