An expert shares 4 specific trends that have gained momentum
The kitchen is the hub of the home—where family gathers around the island in the morning and where guests hover with drinks and laughter awaiting dinner parties. A kitchen’s warm welcome doesn’t have to stop at the memories made in it—in fact, it’s bound to create even more celebration when it’s designed beautifully, efficiently, and well.
Every year, kitchen design fashions come and go—but with a precious few should you hold on. We caught up with Tracy Lewis, Vice President of Operations at Colorado-based Granite Imports and President of NKBA Rocky Mountain Chapter, who dishes out four specific trends that have only gained momentum as time goes on.
1. A mixture of different materials. For instance, dramatic stone on the center island, paired with neutral quartz on the perimeter tops, metal sink appliances and backsplashes, and wood butcher blocks and island tops. This practice adds visual interest and depth to your kitchen design.
2. Multi-colored cabinets. When it comes to kitchen cabinets, there is another design trend that’s heavy on the mixing: two or more different colors.
3. Whites and grays. They’re still all the rage, especially when it comes to countertops. And white will forever be in trend.
4. Gold marble. “This popular feature is carrying over into the manmade quartz lines,” Lewis says. “Homeowners are looking for gold-veined materials to tie in their brushed gold fixtures in kitchen and bath.”
