In this issue, we feature homes built with lifestyles in mind, starting with our 2026 Home of the Year in Breckenridge—created to embrace the family’s love of mountain living and with the intention of designing a home “worthy of the locale,” the husband says. The couple purchased a lot and waited 15 years before beginning the process, working with architect Ken Adler of KA DesignWorks, New West Partners for construction and ColorView interior design.

The homeowners own a restaurant, and the husband engineered the kitchen to be able to cook for 75 people. The fun continues in the lower level with comfortable movie seating, a pool table, bar and a hidden speakeasy, which, according to the husband, is the best place to drink a glass of whiskey. See the story here.

For another couple—both physicians—the goal was to build a residence on their 35 scenic acres near Castle Rock that celebrates, not only the Colorado landscape but also their individual lifestyles. Enlisting the husband’s architect brother, Greg Jones, to design their modern vision, and California designer Mary Beth Norton to create the interiors, the finished home is exactly what the couple hoped for—and they recently added a swimming pool. “We love it,” the wife says of the home.

Taking advantage of all downtown Denver has to offer, a Wisconsin dairy-farming couple purchased a 5,000-square-foot loft in a historic building across from Coors Field for baseball and fun. With the help of DH Interiors and builder Connor Howley, they transformed the space into a stunning modern getaway for family and friends with a maximalist approach to art. Designer David Hintjen was empowered to go bold. He said,“I’m going out on a limb with the artwork…but if there’s anything you don’t like, I’ll take it back.” The homeowners love it: “We’re really happy,” the wife says.

And speaking of maximalism, I had the opportunity to visit with three designers at the Denver Design Center on “The Art of Color,” hosted by Kravet and Benjamin  Moore Paint. I think every person left there with a newfound appreciation of designing with color and pattern. You’ll find photos of the event on here.
