A lifetime of love of Colorado’s gleaming waters and the sport of flyfishing served as the inspiration of a thoughtfully designed billiard room in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. Interior Designer Monica Davis worked closely with the outdoorsy homeowners to expertly incorporate nature into the lighting and craftsmanship of the elegant space. “Just off the front door, guests are welcomed into the billiard room through movement and light, offering guests an experience that playfully introduces the new homeowner’s hobbies and interests,” explains Davis.

Chic lighting illuminates the handsome room in a variety of techniques. Floating above the billiard table hangs a hand-carved wood canoe from the owner’s personal collection. A duo of high voltage pendants drops from the inverted canoe to impart a soft glow without lighting the entire room. “While it may be silly to try to use a canoe for flyfishing, the visualization of this canoe from different angles appears to float down the river of the Sicis Gem Glass,” Davis says.

Prominently hanging on the west wall of the room, an aerial view of a river made from Italian Art Glass, flanked by a stunning wine rack and rolling ladder. The gem glass illuminates with backlight for added drama by day, or a soft glow of ambiance by night. In a cohesive mode, a hand-tied fly is showcased above the fireplace in the formal living room. Bucolic elements are evident throughout the charming residence. “On the opposite side of the house to the billiard room, the powder bath was relocated and redesigned to deliver a sensation of standing on a river bottom, complete with a custom-designed pedestal sink hand-painted with four of the most common types of trout found in our Colorado rivers,” explains Davis.

Playing off wildlife while designing the home was a thrill for Davis. The designer learned about the challenging sport of fly fishing and how this adventurous activity correlates to interior design. “It is a methodical and highly detailed-oriented process, much like Interior Design in form, function and execution. I learned so much about the sport and I so enjoyed using my own abstract interpretation to mimic the lifestyle and spirit of the homeowner.”
