Beauty, Neuroscience & Architecture

Architect Don Ruggles was among the first recipients of CH&L’s Circle of Excellence awards in 2015, and from the very first time I met Don and his wife, Nancy, they have been a constant source of warmth and support. Recently Don (president of Ruggles Mabe Studio) comes out with Beauty, Neuroscience & Architecture (Oklahoma University Press). The book looks at how neuroscience can explain the design patterns we are drawn to and why beauty plays such a critical role in our lives. Don graciously treated our staff to a discussion of his findings about how and why the brain reacts to design. It was fascinating and wonderful, and I think about his words every single time I decide which photos to include in the magazine. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book!
