Downtown Denver's new Hotel Born proves that modern and comfy can coexist
Once guests step inside the Kimpton Hotel Born near Union Station in lower downtown Denver, they are treated to a contemporary, woodsy vibe.
Denver is a creative and stylish city that embraces the outdoors, and the interior design of Hotel Born reflects that by blending contemporary art and alpine lodge touches in a beautiful, effortless fusion.
From the lobby to the guest rooms and suites, the hotel has a homey feel—albeit, a well-appointed home that could easily be featured in a magazine.
The hotel boasts nearly 700 original and limited-edition art pieces by 32 of the most talented Denver artists. Denver Museum of Contemporary Art Director Adam Lerner asked these artists to create bodies of work specifically for Hotel Born. From the array of colorful works behind the front desk to the tweeting birds by David Zimmer near the elevator, Born Hotel’s art merits a moment or two of contemplation. Be sure to ask for a complimentary tour map of the art when you check in. And if that's not enough, the Museum of Contemporary Art is just a three-minute walk from the hotel.
There are 160 standard rooms at Hotel Born, including 40 large suites with gorgeous free-standing soaker tubs. The Presidential and Centennial are premiere suites, with astounding views of Denver and amenities such as a wet bar and double vanities in the bathrooms.
Guest rooms have a modern alpine appeal, with knotty pine headboards and leather furniture. They also feature modern art, a 50” LED TV, and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in Colorado’s ever-present sunshine.
In an ode to several of Colorado’s favorite things, Hotel Born is pet-friendly and fitness-friendly. For instance, there’s a yoga mat in every room should a guest want to get in a little stretching or they can get a full workout at the hotel’s fitness center.
Colorado also loves bikes and beer; Hotel Born offers complimentary bicycles for guests to use during their stay and a complimentary wine-and-beer hour each evening, featuring a rotating tap of local craft beer.
Citizen Rail is a Kimpton restaurant concept located inside Hotel Born. The sunlight-filled space has a large bar that’s popular with the downtown after-work set. The Citizen Rail menu highlights the various house-butchered cuts displayed in the adjacent dry-aging room. Chef Graves’ menu features items such as lamb tartare, bison filet, seafood and more. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch on the weekdays. Brunch is offered on the weekends, and dinner is available seven days a week.
