We Salute Excellence
Recently I was honored to get a VIP tour of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs from resident architect Duane Boyle, who oversees master planning and construction. The famed Cadet Chapel and the entire campus are masterful works of modern architecture. The late Walter Netsch, responsible for all but the new Center for Character and Leadership Development, was a visionary, and we are so lucky to have this collection of buildings in our state. I was even more inspired by the diverse group of 4,000 men and women who take on rigorous academic training and then risk their lives in defense of our country. We are so lucky to have these brave young people protect what we hold dear. They more than deserve such architecture.
To me, design at its best is a humanist endeavor. Great architects, interior and landscape designers, and builders work to make our world more beautiful, livable and environmentally sustainable. We at CH&L are honored to celebrate individuals who have been doing just that for a very long time. We had a record number of submissions for the 2017 Circle of Excellence awards, and narrowing it down to five was daunting.

We are proud to honor this year’s Circle of Excellence winners and highlight their work:
- E.J. Meade of Arch11
- John Rowland and Sarah Broughton of Rowland + Broughton
- Sheri Sanzone of Bluegreen
- Mikal Otten of Exquisite Kitchen Design
- Miranda Cullen of Duet Design Group
A heartfelt thank you to all who submitted for creating a wonderful legacy of work here in Colorado.
My hat is off and my glass is raised!
