It’s not often you see a pair of large fabric dice rolling down the X Games superpipe or an annual lift ticket designed by a renowned artist, but that’s exactly the kind of clever integration of art and community you’ll find under the direction of Heidi Zuckerman, Aspen Art Museum’s CEO and director.

These types of collaborations “allow people to interact with art on a broader base,” says the 10-year Aspen resident and mother of two. They’re also trademark Zuckerman, whose prescient vision has transformed the museum from a local, noncurating institution to an international destination for lovers of contemporary art. Inside the 2014 Shigeru Ban–designed building, she looks to present thought-provoking programs by contemporary artists with awareness of the cultural zeitgeist. Says Zuckerman, “Art makes the world better.”
