Every April, we love to show off a rather large menu of bathroom ideas, from candles to towels to the throne in its entirety. In this issue, we offer 26 pages of diverse styles to spark your design thoughts. The bathroom is of great interest to many, because house tinkering often begins here.

The confession that “it started off as a bathroom remodel and drifted into the entire house” is not an unusual one. And I am continuously surprised by the clever folks who make everyday products, from toilets to towel racks to plungers, more beautiful.

Which brings me to a pet peeve—toilet paper storage. One of my all-time-favorite TP storage solutions came from my friend Deborah, who repurposed beautiful shopping bags from British store Fortnum & Mason, folded them with an elegant cuff, and loaded them with a mountain of rolls. It’s an artful, utilitarian bit of re-use, and the attendant supply guarantees that one need never fret a shortage. But not all of us are that clever.

So I am joyful to report that the toilet paper holder has experienced a paradigm shift. I found this out on a sleepless night when, as one does, I plugged toilet paper holder into Google and spent an hour-ish shopping around. Below, I share a highlight reel of my favorites. My taste runs from the minimal and well-styled to the whimsical— and both can suit, depending on the tenor of the room. From this point forward, I promise, the magazine gets exponentially more refined.
