Sarah and Rusty Brown's Favorite Things

The owners/architects of Semple Brown Design in Denver, share their design faves.

MUSEUM:

We both love the clean, simple design and serenity of the Clyfford Still Museum in Downtown Denver.

FURNITURE:
We like to mix vintage mid-century modern with classic modern furniture design, such as Saarinen, Eames and Hans Wegner. Mod Livin’, Denver; Knoll, Denver; Design Within Reach, Denver; hermanmiller.com

DESIGN TREND:
Outdoor rooms
. In Colorado, we have this great opportunity to incorporate outdoor rooms that connect and extend overall livable space. We are finally seeing residential design that integrates useful connected outdoor spaces with large openings, shade structures and appropriate amenities.

COLORADO ARTIST:

Boulder-based multimedia artist Ana Maria Hernando. We like abstract art, and she is so colorful and fresh. It’s very happy, organic art with a botanical bent. robischongallery.com

SERVING WARE:
Heath Ceramics
have a beautiful, clean, handmade look and feel. We are redoing our kitchen right now, and we want all new Heath dishes for the space. Heath Bud Vase Set in Classic Red, $52; Cafe Bowl Duo in Ruby Red/Red Suede, $80.

CITY:
We enjoy traveling to European midsize progressive cities with modern architecture. Our favorites are Oslo, Amsterdam and Munich.

RETAIL STORE:
We love the new Room & Board in Cherry Creek with its crisp modern architecture and rooftop terrace.

HOUSEWARMING GIFT:

A potted succulent plant from Bloom in Denver.

NAPKINS/TABLECLOTH:

Our good friend Chris Weber is the designer and owner of a great linen company based in San Francisco called StudioPatró. Beautifully designed napkins, aprons and tea towels.
