Aspen-based, award-winning architectural firm Rowland + Broughton has designed a sleek flagship boutique on Gondola Plaza called AspenX, a unique retail concept that is anything but your average rental shop. The 1,200-square-foot space has an elevated, avant-garde feel, with a combination of ebonized and bleached oak, and a dropped ceiling with vertical extruded aluminum to allow a sense of openness and light. The store features bespoke retail, including the limited-edition AspenX Prada performance skiwear collaboration, plus premium ski and bike rentals and a full-service food counter with Lavazza espresso, wine and tasty bites and pastries.

“Partnering with Aspen Skiing Company and Cinco Design to bring the innovative AspenX retail concept to life was extremely rewarding,” says Sarah Broughton, who has also designed Aspen landmarks such as Element 47 in The Little Nell, Ajax Tavern, Cloud Nine and Aspen Mountain Club. “It is Aspen in a nutshell—fashion, luxury and high performance.” AspenX, 611 E. Durant Ave., Aspen, aspenx.com
