Our Favorite Room

WHERE IT BEGAN: When designer Jodi Feinhor-Dennis, owner of Invironments in Boulder, walked into this home, it was merely “a shell,” she says. “We needed something to anchor this room, and I envisioned the bookshelves on the back wall.” Feinhor-Dennis wanted to preserve the home's historic feel—she estimates that the house is about 80 years old—but she also wanted to modernize the space. “I took inspiration from the home itself and from the owners, who are really hip and creative,” she says.
When she and her clients started choosing furniture, she began with the couch, which is from Scandinavian Designs. “It's the right size, the right feel,” she says. Then she reupholstered the chairs—which the owners already had—in quilted brown fabric with white piping. From there, the room came together with smart space planning and creative details.
PERFECT TOUCHES: Perhaps our favorite part of the room is the luscious mixture of high-end and affordable products. The rug, from DellaRobbia—”one of the very best rug companies in the country,” the designer says—has a strong graphic pattern, well worth the investment. The table lamp is from Restoration Hardware, subtle and curvy in all the right ways. And the table it sits on? It's an antique.
MAKE IT GREEN: Feinhor-Dennis has a passion for eco-friendly design, so we asked her to imagine designing this space all over again, only this time, with all sustainable products. Here's a glance at what she found, with more green goodies to help you get the look in the March issue of CH&L.
