Meet Us in the Kitchen
The Editor's Letter: September/October 2017
I keep thinking about a quote from Colorado Homes & Lifestyles 2017 Circle of Excellence winner and principal of Exquisite Kitchen Design Mikal Otten: “I’m still amazed at how many times we hear ‘this kitchen is the heart of the home.’” Well, actually, Mike, I can. Nourishment is all about love, so it makes sense that the spot where our tummies and hearts are fed is of central importance to the home.

In the September/October 2017 issue we offer 17 examples of kitchens that spoke to our souls. Modern, rustic, transitional, traditional and downright funky. Take a look at these fantasy islands in 13 Kitchens That Welcome Us In.

We also bring you Colorado chef Beth Strongwater’s dream-of-a-lifetime kitchen. Beth had so much fun creating it that she’s now started her own design business!

And we bring back a reader favorite, food blogger Tieghan Gerard, who, two years after our first story on her (“A Girl, A Blog, A Barn,” September 2015), now has her first cookbook coming out. Tieghan is gifted in the kitchen, gracious in life and a super hard worker who has been helping her mom, Jen, feed their family of eight since she was 15. Beth and Tieghan also share some of their favorite tools of the trade.

There are plenty of other reasons to indulge, as well: an incredible roundup of felt décor, the art of Shawn Huckins, and the amazing designs of Denver-based New Collar Goods, plus a conversation with New York’s luxe furniture designer Eric Chang of Hellman-Chang.

As always, we hope these stories bring you inspiration for your home and that this year’s harvest finds you breaking bread with those you love on a regular basis. Happy fall!
