Castle Rock Resident Receives ADA Home Makeover
The Home Builders Foundation (HBF) recently partnered with KB Home and the company’s employees to remodel the home of Jace Garcia, a nine-year-old Castle Rock resident who was recently paralyzed in a tragic car accident.
Last December, Jace Garcia’s life was changed forever by a head-on collision in Castle Rock. He and his sister, Haevyn, were both rushed to the hospital. Haevyn was released after three nights, but Jace’s journey to recovery was just beginning. He transferred to Children’s Hospital for further critical treatment by pediatric specialists to address his paralysis.
During his stay at Children’s Hospital, his family found out about the HBF, a metro-Denver based nonprofit that modifies homes to make them accessible so that individuals living with a disability can live safe, independent lives once again.

After receiving the family’s request for assistance, the HBF visited the home to assess the project and began sourcing a Project Captain to complete the work. KB Home, a home builder working in the Castle Rock area, jumped at the opportunity to assist in Jace and the Garcia family. The remodeling project took several months and includes a renovated ADA compliant bathroom, widened doorways, closet modifications, the installation of new hard flooring and the construction of an ADA ramp at the entrance to the home. The total value of the project is more than $20,000, but thanks to the HBF and KB Home, the family will receive these modifications at no cost.
“We are pleased and honored to assist Jace and his family,” said Randy Carpenter, president of KB Home’s Colorado division. “Supporting children and building relationships in the communities where we live, work and build homes is at the heart of what we do best. With this project, our employees tapped into their passion to serve others for the benefit of a very deserving young man.”

To celebrate the completion of the project, HBF and KB Home hosted a celebration at the family's home on August 10. During the event, the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department surprised Jace by arriving in their newest fire truck. On board were Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper (Jace is a diehard Star Wars fan) as well as the firefighters who responded to the accident.
