Bring the Denver Chalk Art Festival to Your Home
The annual art fest pushes forward by going virtual in June. Find out how you can get involved

A summer favorite for Denverites, the Denver Chalk Art Festival fills the streets of historic Larimer Square with artists covering the pavement with vibrant (and chalky) outdoor masterpieces.
A celebration of creativity, appreciation for the arts and a sense of curiosity, the fest is still hoping to do that in 2020–but with a twist.
On June 6 and 7, 2020, the annual chalk gallery event will take place in an entirely virtual format, inviting at-home creators to bust out that dusty box of chalk to participate.
Novices drawers and experts alike can now share their creations online with the hashtags #denverchalkartfestival and #larimersquare, which will then be showcased on Larimer Square’s social media.
Another incentive to get creative? Those who submit are then entered to win a $25 Larimer Square gift card to use at one of the 30 local businesses that reside there.
“June is usually one of the busiest months of the year on Larimer Square with festivals, events and flowers in bloom. Due to the pandemic, it has been a particularly difficult time for our restaurant and retail tenants,” said Jeff Hermanson, long-time owner and steward of Larimer Square.
“We want to celebrate and support them, as well as the Denver artist community in a manner that’s safe for all. So this year, we’re finding creative ways to celebrate public art while also supporting our local retail and restaurant businesses as they begin to reopen their doors and invite the community back to Larimer Square.”

What: The Denver Chalk Art Festival: On The Road
Dates: Saturday, June 6 through Sunday, June 7, 2020
Who: Dozens of Colorado-based professional artists and amateurs will turn their own sidewalks, porches and balconies into beautiful works of art and share their creations through photos and videos posted on Larimer Square’s social media channels throughout the weekend.
