It’s a simple equation: The intense Colorado sun = the need for a protective hat. Fortunately, Boulder-based Wallaroo Hat Company has you covered. Longtime pals Lenya Shore and Stephanie Carter founded the company 18 years ago. “There were just not a lot of choices for attractive, feminine hats,” says Shore, who, along with Carter, hired an Australian hat designer and founded Wallaroo to fill the need for everyday, affordable hats.

In more than 3,000 retail shops around the country, Wallaroo offers colorful, lightweight skimmers, many that are totally packable, with an SPF of 50+.
