A Denver Staycation in Style
The perks of Cherry Creek’s newest boutique hotel, the Halcyon
Walking into the Halcyon in Cherry Creek feels more like arriving at a friend’s dinner party than checking into a boutique hotel. Guests are promptly offered a complimentary cappuccino or glass of wine at the hotel’s front desk (built to look like a kitchen countertop) while other visitors lounge on chic sofas and chairs in the adjacent lobby (built to feel like an upscale living room). Designed by Johnson Nathan Strohe—an architecture and interiors firm known for their vast portfolio of modern hotel and apartment projects around Denver and beyond—the 154-room hotel combines the comforts of home with a dose of modern luxury.

“The concept there was you’re visiting your wealthy friend’s home in Cherry Creek,” says Tobias Strohe of Johnson Nathan Strohe. “It has a contemporary but warm feel; it’s made to feel like you’ve been invited to spend time in someone’s home.”
Here, our favorite features of the hotel that’s sure to be our go-to staycation spot in Denver.

GRUB HUB: Stop by the main level’s kitchen counter for a craft pint, a cocktail or a pour-over coffee, as well as sweet and savory bites throughout the day.

ROOFTOP SPLASH: Weather permitting, the Halycon’s rooftop pool and hot tubs offer a space to unwind and take in panoramic views of Denver and the Rockies. Grab a drink and a bite at the poolside bar, Departure Elevated, or reserve a full-service cabana to escape the sun.

DINNER DATE: The Halcyon’s on-site restaurants make dinner plans a no-brainer. Chef Gregory Gourdet serves up plates of Pan-Asian fare at Departure Restaurant + Lounge’s second location (its counterpart is inside Portland’s Nines Hotel). Quality Italian is expected to open soon, and will serve classic Italian a la carte dishes in a traditional steakhouse setting.

PLAY TIME: Each guest has access to the Halcyon’s Gear Garage stockpiled with amenities for the adventurer. Take a Vespa, longboard or bike for a spin around the neighborhood; escape to the mountains with an Osprey backpack filled with a GoPro, Frisbee, Swiss Army knife and binoculars; spend a day at the park with a Bocce ball set or kites.

TUNE IN: Each guest room comes equipped with Hulu Plus, Netflix and high-speed WiFi for those in need of a low-key weekend of binge-watching and room service. For vinyl aficionados, each room also includes a turntable with a collection of albums personally selected to suit your music tastes.

ON DISPLAY: To keep with the contemporary vibe, the Halcyon has a collection of over 750 pieces of modern art displayed throughout the guest rooms, lobby areas and meeting spaces. Feast your eyes on paintings, mixed-media, photography and sculptures from 41 artists represented in Colorado.
