Paintings that Represent Energy, Joy and Spontaneity
Intuition and free expression inspire and nourish deeply personal fine art.
“Painting is a journal of my life experiences,” says Amy Dixon, owner of Amy Dixon Fine Art. “Defining and redefining my voice on canvas has been an authentic journey throughout my 35-years working as an artist.”
Dixon’s artwork is described as immediate and emotive, using opaque and translucent hues and layers to capture the imagination of the viewer. Each creation reflects her deliberate appraisal of composition, color and texture.
After studying at Newcomb College at Tulane University, Dixon embarked upon her post-graduate artistic study in Florence, Italy. Born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, she now lives in Denver and operates two studios from her home.
Recently, Dixon was awarded a residency in the Champagne region of France, and spent two weeks working alongside other artists, musicians and writers. Dixon got her start by showing her paintings in local restaurants and frame shops. Over time, her art landed in galleries in Atlanta, Charleston, Santa Fe, Carmel and Palm Desert.
Trained in oil painting, she switched to acrylic paint when her daughter was an infant to keep the environment less toxic. Her signature bold brushwork and vibrant palette illustrate “a continuous conversation with color.” “Travel is a rich source of inspiration for me,” explains Dixon.
“So many things catch my eye.” Reflection, light, form and rendering all play integral parts in her compositions. “I like my work to be an ongoing celebration of life.”
With a wide variety of subjects, her paintings include florals, figures, landscapes, animal life, chandeliers, and beach scenes. It is an easy task to find the perfect piece for any room in a home or commercial space. Dixon also commissions paintings.
‘I don’t collect an up-front deposit because I want to collaborate with clients in a way that enables creative freedom as I work,” she explains. “It’s very important to me that the client wholeheartedly loves the painting they have commissioned.”
Dixon maintains a small number of finished pieces for sale in her studios. Other paintings are available directly through various galleries. Her website showcases her artwork collections, where they are, and whether they are available.
