From the Editor: Let it Snow!

An ode to the winter season

Sometime in the next few months, we will receive our first snowfall, heralding winter’s arrival. This is always an exciting time for me, a winter worshipper—I love the scene in Gilmore Girls where Lorelai and Rory throw open the window and say, “I smell snow!”

In this issue, we share cozy wintry abodes in Boulder, Denver and Aspen. A yoga instructor and an artist in Boulder invite us into their hillside sanctuary designed around wellness, nature and spirituality, where comfy swivel armchairs beckon guests to sit and enjoy the view. In Denver’s Wash Park neighborhood, a family from Santa Barbara gives a 1900s bungalow a refresh while respecting its historic bones. And a condo in The Gant, just minutes from all Aspen offers, gets remodeled just in time for the owner’s wedding.

Along with the snow, this season brings the holidays, a time of year when I like to focus on the three “f”s—family, friends and food. We asked design experts for tips to “jeuje” up holiday décor, learning some tricks of the trade like mixing fresh greens with silk foliage and adding “ornamental clusters” to branches—a technique guaranteed to allow even more of my ornament collection on the tree.

For holiday gift ideas, you have come to the right place. Our editorial team searched high and low for gifts priced high and low—all, of course, made in Colorado. And we found some gems—including literally, like the pavé diamond bracelet from Golden Bear—along with useful and beautiful locally crafted wares, from cutting boards to artisanal kitchen towels, sure to please the most discerning folks on your list. No matter how you celebrate the holidays—from loud raucous family affairs to intimate gatherings with a few close friends, I wish you all the warmth and happiness of the season.
