The Colorado Pedals Project

Disclaimer: I feel a bit awkward highlighting some of the amazing bike trails we have here in Colorado. And it’s not because I don’t use them; it’s because my husband, Ken (dubbed the Bike Czar by Governor Hickenlooper, with an annual salary of $1), is one of the folks behind the “16 in 2016,” a grouping of 16 biking and hiking trails (both existing and new) that the governor has selected to have the biggest impact in the state in terms of health and wellness, economic development and tourism. Still, my editor, a newly converted cyclist, insisted that our readers be in the know when it comes to new paths for exploring our majestic surroundings on two wheels.

The recently launched Colorado Pedals Project, in conjunction with Bicycle Colorado, is an initiative that bequeaths our state $100 million over the next four years to make Colorado the most bike-friendly state in the nation. Some examples of the new trail system include Hummingbird Trail in Aspen; Oil Well Flats Trail System in Cañon City; Legacy Loop in Colorado Springs; the US 36 Bikeway from Boulder to Denver; Divinity Flow Trail in Durango; and more.
