Putting Art Together: The 2015 Home of the Year

Art is the icing, the finishing touch on a well-designed interior. It can set the emotional or intellectual tone for the room, and reflect the life’s journey of the client. The most interesting art collections are comprised of different mediums and aesthetics, weaving a story through the diverse living spaces in a home. The only rule to collecting is to follow no rules. My client in Evergreen (whose home was the Colorado Homes & Lifestyles 2015 Home of the Year) had a lovely mountain contemporary art collection. This large space in the theater room gave us a dramatic backdrop for a monochromatic piece (above). The two 48-inch, square birch panels were connected with antique hinges the artist found in new Mexico. The piece, Don Quade’s “Tango Nights," was inspired by a recent trip to Spain. In this painting he captures the feeling of a tango performance.
