Two Denver penthouse apartments become one dazzling, contemporary high-rise, complete with swoon-worthy views
Soaring 27 stories above Denver, this top-floor loft offers an unparalleled perspective on the Front Range and the city. The sweeping, contemporary space flows cohesively without hinting at the fact that it was once two separate residences—which is exactly the way architect Martin Goldstein designed it.
“The loft was truly a collaborative effort between our firm, the homeowner and the builder,” says Goldstein, founding partner, along with his wife Melissa, of Denver’s Venture Architecture. “When we met with [then-homeowner] Ronna Phelps, she had a strong vision for the space: She wanted an open floor plan with clean, modern lines that would highlight the views. She also requested a modern kitchen and dining area that would foster easy entertaining, a central fireplace and a separate sitting area.”
Another benefit of combining two units was the resulting 1,500 square feet of balconied patio space that extends the living area outdoors. With the patio’s 270-degree view, it’s the perfect place to watch the sun setting over the Rocky Mountains or the nightlife revving up in the city—far, far below.
Clean and contemporary, the loft’s open floor plan highlights the wide-ranging views and floods the space with natural light. Gleaming red Pedini cabinetry from Thurston Kitchen and Bath lines the kitchen wall, and the softly-curving kitchen island cabinets are Pedini walnut. The refrigerator and ovens are from Sub-Zero, and the hood is from Miele.
A wraparound hearth is the focal point of the open living area, and the white sectional couch is from Roche Bobois.
Lipstick-red mosaic tiles from Decorative Materials cover the wall of the powder room, providing a snazzy backdrop for a deep basin sink with an overhead faucet. The lights are LBL Lighting’s Bling low-voltage pendants; a frosted glass panel provides privacy.
Canines and humans alike enjoy the 270-degree views from the loft’s expansive, balconied patio. The curvy chaise-lounge chairs from Asian Decor Denver are comfortable yet substantial enough to withstand Colorado’s weather and the occasional wind gust.
