How to Make an Entrance With Your Entryway

It's easy to take your front walkway for granted because it's such a necessary and practical part of the landscape. However, the materials and style you choose can make all the difference in your path's appearance and safety, which go a long way in making your entry more welcoming.

1. If you want your walkway to blend with the rest of the landscape, carry the same material from your front porch and steps to the path itself. Make sure to choose a material that provides plenty of traction to avoid slips and falls. Stamped concrete, brick pavers and textured stone, like travertine, are all attractive options.

2. To really make guests feel welcome, make your path wide—go for 4 feet or more to provide plenty of room.

3. Light your path, so visitors can safely walk after dark. Choose lights that are placed at path level so they aren't any dark spots and the edges are sharply defined.
