Dior at the Denver Art Museum

Dior: From Paris to the World is the first major Dior retrospective to be held in the United States, featuring over 200 couture dresses and more

With a swish of silk, Dior: From Paris to the World sweeps into the Denver Art Museum this month, celebrating 70 years of fabulous fashion from the House of Dior.

“This exhibition will encourage audiences to think differently about the boundaries of fashion as art,” says Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the DAM. “Dior: From Paris to the World will give our visitors insight into the House of Dior’s creative process and inspirations that contributed to its unparalleled impact on the fashion world, which continues to reverberate today.”

Christian Dior caused a sensation in austerity-weary, post-WWII Europe with his glamorous haute couture designs, creating a new silhouette accentuating nipped waists and voluminous skirts that helped define the look of modern femininity. His luxurious garments enchanted and inspired a population sorely in need of beauty. Following in his footsteps, subsequent House of Dior artistic directors—including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri—have tailored the Dior look to meet changing times.

The exhibition showcases over 200 couture dresses, plus accessories, jewelry, archival photos, drawings and runway videos tracing the history and influence of one of the world’s iconic haute couture houses. Many garments on loan from the Dior Heritage Collection have seldom been seen outside of Europe.

Dior: From Paris to the World is the first major Dior retrospective to be held in the United States. It was organized by the DAM, and curated by Florence Müller, the DAM’s Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile Art and Fashion.

The show runs from November 19, 2018, to March 3, 2019
