Masterful carpentry skills and an affinity for nature, artist Patrick Dougherty has made a name for himself weaving truckloads of saplings into sculptures of epic proportions. Mimicking all things from ancient observatories, windy labyrinths or even Aladdin’s magic lamp, these interactive pieces invoke elements of fantasy and curiosity for both adults and children. After turning a hobby into his full-time gig, the arborist has created more than 250 pieces featured in prominent settings like Washington DC’s Smithsonian Museum to the Castles of Dukes in France. Dougherty will have new concepts displayed at the Denver Botanic Gardens – Chatfield Farms starting April 27 for guests to explore until the sculptures naturally dismantle themselves.

Once known as the ‘Harlem of the West’, this fest pays homage to its musical roots with ragtime tunes that will have you swinging and scatting all the way home. Enriched with jazz culture and history, this all-day event includes tributes to a wide array of music legends such as Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, while attendees can also soak in the sounds of drums, pianos and brass instruments from local artists.
