What the Editor is Loving: Pillows & Butterflies

As the warmer months bring their wacky weather gyrations, most of us on the Front Range are ready for full-on summer, short sleeves, flip-flops, and hours of outdoor time. The overprotective mother in me would like to remind you all not to skimp on the SPF. That said, our staffers Rebecca Gart and M.C. Vincent have tirelessly scouted the furniture landscape to bring you an inspired collection of couches, swings, chairs, and benches upon which you can relax beneath our brilliant sun and sky.

Denver artist James Bohling paints evocative landscapes in vibrant color that remind us of all there is to go out and savor. We offer some stunning examples of Colorado families who have created homes that make the most of their outdoor spaces—from small to sprawling. Finally, we present some homes that attest to the beauty of smallness and simplicity.

I am constantly inspired by all the creativity that goes into the making of these spaces, from architects to builders to designers to homeowners. It’s our pleasure to show them off. Now put on your sunscreen and get out there!

As summer is upon us, here are some fun additions to bring color and whimsy to your outdoor spaces!

Sisters Sandra and Marta Castañeda have spent the last six years working with Peruvian artisans, supporting the production and business development of their work as well as fostering ancient textile-weaving techniques. Their 2016 País Textil catalog is chock-full of vibrant, colorful pillows like these (18” x 18” pillows run from about $25 to $40), as well as table runners, place mats, purses, and more. For a list of U.S. stockists and a catalog, visit paistextil.com.

Kikkerland’s reusable Butterfly Drink Markers flutter in the wind as well as doing the important job of making sure no one inadvertently snags your Pinot. $8/set of 12, kikkerland.com

Tough to resist these two particular species. Pottery Barn’s Nobelia Butterfly and Dragonfly Skimmer indoor/outdoor pillows add both color and whimsy. $39.50 each, potterybarn.com
