Jill P. Mott Photography

On Saturday, May 2nd, 2015, Denverites flocked to the second-largest derby-themed event in the country (in first place is the actual Kentucky Derby). Check out this photographic breakdown of the huge event that sells out within days every year.

The event was held at the Denver Center of the Performing Arts complex.

The fashion enthusiasm was on-point.

The derby was displayed on a giant jumbotron for the massive audience to watch and clamor over.

The best hat contest was a hit.

Crowds jammed out to talented performers, including a Dixie jazz band, an 80s rock band and a Los Angeles DJ.

Zach Valadez, this year's recipient of the Sean ‘Ranch’ Lough Memorial Scholarship, was presented with his check.
