If there is one word that sums up the aesthetic of Julie Doman, owner of Julie Doman Interior Design, it might be minimalist. She favors simple lines, modern style, and deliberately crafts interiors that suit her clients and their homes beautifully. “I listen to what the house needs and what my clients want,” she says. “I strive to remain true to the home, its history, and its location.”

By looking at three of Doman’s projects, it’s easy to see how different dwellings call for a unique touch. In each, the use of mixed materials, textures, and pops of color gives a curated vibe that calls to mind a state of pure comfort.

Mid-Century Revival

This 5,300-square-foot, 6-bedroom, 5-bath home was built in the 1950s. “A lot of the work on this house involved stripping back previous design updates,” Doman explains. The addition of outdoor living space, including a pool, gives the home plenty of room to gather and entertain.

Inside, the interplay between light and dark hues and rich wood finishes keeps the space warm and inviting. Drapes, antique rugs, and leather chairs offer texture and provide eye-appealing contrast against the white walls. Simple, uncluttered spaces enable one to feel completely at ease.

An interior remodel for this home near Cheesman Park was all about creating modern comfort while preserving its historic quality. Built in 1909, opening the space in this 5,000-square-foot home was a priority. “To expand the kitchen into the family room required the installation of a massive steel support beam,” Doman notes.

In this home, small details make a big impact. Fixtures with a brass finish complement the kitchen’s Woden Woods fine cabinetry, light quartzite countertops, and Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

The redesign incorporates the original high ceilings, maintaining the home’s airy quality. Kelly Ventura wall covering in the powder room adds a wow factor to the small space.

Pine Creek in Winter Park

This abode is a perfect example of Mountain Modern design. Scandinavian simplicity, open space, and white oak enhance this bright 3,800-square-foot home, just steps away from the Winter Park Bus Shuttle.

Nestled against Vasquez Creek, the dwelling makes the most of a smaller footprint with 5 bedrooms and 4½ baths. Two bunk rooms maximize sleeping capacity for guests, while two deck areas provide ample outdoor space.

Doman explains, “Creating a home’s desired look is due, in large part, to excellent rapport with the contractors on each project. Blue Divide worked on the Mid-Century and Morgan Hill projects. The Winter Park project was completed by Wilcox Custom Builders.”
