Modern, sentimental and meaning-driven pieces define the distinctive charm of FoundRae’s bespoke jewelry. Colorado Homes & Lifestyles sits down with the brand’s Creative Director and Founder, Beth Hutchens, to learn more about the inspiration behind FoundRae’s recent Aspen retail location opening.

What specifically about Aspen felt like the right fit for FoundRae’s philosophy?

Beth Hutchens: Aspen has a unique spirit. There is a deep reverence for nature and a sense of perspective that comes from being surrounded by the mountains. FoundRae is rooted in ideas of self-discovery and personal evolution, and Aspen is a place where people often come to reflect, reconnect, and be present in nature. That ethos feels very aligned with what we try to express through our jewelry.

How does the physical environment of FoundRae’s Aspen boutique serve as an extension of the brand’s storytelling identity?

BH: Every FoundRae space is designed to feel like entering a symbolic world. The environment reflects the same layered storytelling that exists in the jewelry itself.

In Aspen, the boutique was conceived with the feeling of a stately library. Medallions are displayed on leather-bound tomes, and the space is layered with rich materials like green marble, burl wood, leather, and brass. Like all FoundRae boutiques, the space balances elements that feel rough yet refined, contemporary yet heritage-driven, luxe yet approachable. Because each piece carries symbolism and meaning, the environment encourages clients to pause, explore the medallions and tenets, and discover the symbols that resonate most personally.

How does the creative process work when designing a location-specific piece, like the Aspen Exclusive Medallion?

BH: The Aspen medallion was created as a reflection of both place and philosophy. It features three horseshoes together, symbolizing expanding Protection. Historically the horseshoe was made of iron, a strong metal that withstands fire, making it an appropriate metaphor for standing against the fire of adversity and negativity.

Together the three horseshoes form a shape called a Triskele, derived from an Ancient Greek word meaning “three times.” The symbol reflects the idea of protection expanding outward. As with all FoundRae pieces, the design connects to our larger lexicon of symbols and tenets, allowing the medallion to act as a personal talisman while also marking the Western spirit of Aspen.

Why is creating a bespoke experience important to FoundRae’s vision? How is this reflected in the Aspen store?

BH: FoundRae has always been about personal meaning. Each piece is designed as a tool of self-discovery and self-expression, allowing people to choose symbols that reflect their values, milestones, and intentions. Over time, these pieces become modern heirlooms that gather meaning as part of the wearer’s life story.

Because of that, our retail spaces are designed to invite exploration and discovery. In Aspen, the boutique encourages clients to take time with the medallions and the symbolism behind them, creating pieces that feel deeply personal. The store also features Discovery Drawers, an experience unique to FoundRae boutiques – where guests can explore special designs, archive pieces, and one-of-a-kind creations. An in-house bench jeweler further reflects FoundRae’s commitment to artistry and intimacy, allowing clients to build and evolve their jewelry story over time.
