Denver’s Designer Show House in Hilltop
The Denver design community pulls off a showstopper and raises $70,000 for Children’s Hospital Colorado
Congrats and kudos to LIV Sotheby's Brokers Trish Bragg and Maggie Armstrong, who have succeeded in spearheading Denver’s fifth Designer Show House. This year’s home, a new build in Hilltop, is a five-bedroom, white-and-black stunner by architects Carlos Alvarez and Conor Robinson of Alvarez Morris Architectural Studio, with all interior finishes as well as living, dining and kitchen spaces crafted by Carolyn Morris and Lauren Perry.
The rest of the rooms throughout are the work of major Denver talents, including Casey St. John Interiors, D+D Interiors, KC Studio, Knape & Zibell Interior Design, Studio LW, Studio STG, Boland Lord Design, Chalet, Waterworks and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. The landscape architecture is the work of Designs by Sundown. All of the smart home automation—audio, visual, lighting, control, and security systems—were wired and outfitted by Aurum Home Technology.
The result of this group labor of love was an “ooh-ahh” walk-through experience, woven together by an extraordinary collection of art curated by Ann Benson Reidy + Associates. Carolyn Morris of Alvarez Morris designed the hard and soft surfaces throughout the house, as well as the show house’s living, dining and kitchen areas. “I like spaces to be earthy, organic and have lots of texture,” she says, explaining her choices in the great room (above)—almost all from Town Studio. Morris admits to an obsession for the alpaca Rosemary Hallgarten pillows and throws that cozy up the daybed from Bright Chair and the Jiun Ho curved-back sofa. The lacquered bronze Robert Kuo coffee table rests on a Moroccan rug from Floor Coverings by CPA in the Denver Design District. The earthiness segues nicely into the Aspen Leaf Kitchen, which includes a marble backsplash from the Stone Collection, Mark Albrecht Studio barstools from John Brooks and basket lights from Serena & Lily. Flowers and plants throughout were arranged by Anuschka Pashel of Bloom by Anuschka.
Susan Gowen of Studio STG succeeded in creating a sitting room that looked “collected and personal.” She selected a Bernard Kassoy painting for above the fireplace, a midcentury Broyhill nightstand flanked by Jens Risom walnut chairs re-covered in linen, an antique Chinese console table and a Persian rug from Shaver-Ramsey.
Morris’ dining space includes a Troscan Design table, A. Rudin chairs and an RH chandelier. The striking art wall holds Passage 6 by Dale Chisman (left) and The Jig is Almost Up by Deborah Zlotsky.
The subtle gray in the master is the work of D+D Interiors’ Mikhail Dantes. Bed, chair and rug from Town Studio. The painting is N˚ 780 by Eric Blum.
Designer Regan Mattingly of Chalet arranged multiple seating areas to “create an outdoor living space that was an extension of the living room with modern and supercomfy furniture,” she says. Sofa and half-moon chairs are by Ethimo, and the concrete round tables are Oso Industries. All pieces are from Town Studio. The fire pit is cast stone by Distinctive Mantel Designs.
Artwork throughout the house came from Robischon Gallery, David B. Smith Gallery, Goodwin Fine Art, Rule Gallery, Visions West Contemporary, Duke Beardsley Studio, Gildar Gallery, William Havu Gallery and Alyson Khan.
