The Denver Bake Fest, hosted by the Rebel Bread Production Lab in Denver’s Design District, is scheduled for October 7 from 10:00 am to noon. This old-fashioned baking competition is designed to celebrate bakers and bakery-lovers by bringing the community together to experience the creativity and diversity in our local food community. The event also doubles as a celebration of Rebel Bread’s 5th anniversary.

“As a primarily wholesale operation,” says Zach Martinucci, founder of Rebel Bread, “we look forward to welcoming the public in to see what we do.” Devil’s Cup Coffee will be featured and served at the festival. Rebel Bread is an artisan, wholesale bakery based in Denver. Specializing in loaves and coffee shop-style pastries, Rebel Bread products are available at the bakery’s retail counter, the South Pearl Farmers Market, Leevers Locavore, Pimelon grocery programs, and independent coffee shops. Weekly doorstep delivery can be arranged through the Rebel Bread Club.

Rebel Bread loaves and pastries can be purchased the day of the event at the shop’s retail counter. Martinucci traces his love of baking to a college bake-off experience and hopes to share the fun with contestants and attendees. The Bake Fest will take place outdoors in the courtyard adjacent to Rebel Bread. All contest entries will be carefully prepared by competing bakers in their home kitchens. Cakes, pies, a “wildcard” Baker’s Choice category, a Kid’s category for bakers under 12, and a category for variations on the much-loved chocolate chip cookie are eligible to earn a Judges’ Award.

Three People’s Choice awards will recognize the fan favorite entries. Categories may include both savory and sweet baked goods with items like blue cheese walnut tartlets, bagels, sourdough focaccia, and lemon poppy seed macarons vying for the tasters’ attention. “The festival offers a chance for bakers to connect with each other and for attendees to taste items that are new and different,” Martinucci explains. “Festival samples will be full serving sizes so they can be shared or taken home to be eaten later.”

Over 80 bakers have registered to compete, offering mouthwatering selections of indulgent, tempting choices. Bake Fest admittance is free, and attendees can sample as many entries as they wish by purchasing tasting tickets online or at the festival. Parking is free, and the festival location is just a short walk from the Alameda RTD Light Rail Station. To learn more or purchase tasting tickets, please visit the Rebel Bread website.
