Jackie Newell, founder, and owner of Basil + Tate, says her design firm was born from her need for a creative outlet. “Interior design has always been my passion,” she says, “and I felt I could help others make their space their sanctuary.” She put together a team of four and launched Basil + Tate in 2016.

“The Basil + Tate design process begins with directing potential clients to our website to look at our portfolio and get a taste of our aesthetic,” explains Newell. “It’s important that our designs align with what a potential customer is looking for.” Once done, prospective clients can send an online inquiry. A style discovery consultation helps Newell put together a complete design board from which she works during the design process. “It’s imperative to have a design plan that is clear to both designer and client from the very beginning,” she says. “I like to have a plan in place before I begin to purchase items.”

Newell sources furniture and décor online or through wholesalers. “One of the big benefits of online sourcing is that items are returnable in the rare instance where we find they just aren’t ideal for the intended space.” The desired outcome for every Basil + Tate client is the creation of a truly unique space that meets their needs and feels like home.
