A Toast to our Home of the Year Issue

I consider our Home of the Year issue a rather large personal stressor because we see and show so many worthy homes all year long that picking just one is a daunting task. But we do, and I sincerely hope that when you see the entire property, from bedroom to barn, you will understand why it feels like a command performance on so many levels—the way it lives in its landscape, how it serves owners Kamil and Glo Tazi, and the personal elements throughout that speak to their history. Some homes just seem to arrive with their own drumroll (see the 2017 Home of the Year).

We are very happy to also include many of the finalists for this year’s honor. From a family home in Belcaro to a movie-set-worthy manse in Bow Mar to my favorite house in Louisville, a modern stunner. I thank all of those who submitted homes; we had an impressive number making us even happier about what’s going on in Colorado design, but also making our selection all the more difficult.

Other treasures in this issue include an enlightening conversation with New York maker, author and entrepreneur John Derian as well as a look at the wonderful botanical paintings of Meredith Feniak and the amazing tiny homes of Durango architect Greg Parham. Finally, we’d like to hoist a glass in celebration of the 27th Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Cherry Creek North and the amazing cultural contribution it offers all of us who live here. We need art in our lives like we need air.
