A Complete Home Renovation Signifies a Fresh Start
This home interior makeover represents a new stage in life
To mark the beginning of a new chapter as a single mother with two teen daughters, a Centennial family of three was ready for a complete home upgrade. The 3,452 square foot, four-bedroom and three-and-a-half-bathroom family home was due for an overhaul. The owner wanted a streamlined, sophisticated look that was modern but maintained the cozy ambiance she loved.
Natasha Lauren, owner, and creative director of Floret + Co. was tasked with designing the project. Her firm is dedicated to “creating harmonious spaces that result in an exhale of serenity.” Offering design options in-person or via E-Design, the company provides everything from Concierge Level, Modified Level, and Designer for a Day services to help make new build or renovation dreams a reality.
Since the family wanted to live in the home throughout the renovation, the work was phased to accommodate them with a minimum of disruption. Over 90 percent of the home was modernized, so the family inhabited areas in the home that were not under construction while the work progressed.
“Our goal was to open up the floorplan a bit and use the natural light to the home’s best advantage,” says Lauren. “The flooring was switched to a white oak, all walls were painted, new bathroom surfaces were installed, new light fixtures were chosen, and black iron staircase railings and detailing were selected to add interest and contrast.” Lauren explains that in the upper level, some non-load-bearing walls were reconfigured to give the bedrooms and bathrooms more functionality and space.
To further personalize the home’s interior, architectural elements including Roman clay walls, wallpapers, and accent walls made the home unique. The curb appeal of the home was upgraded too with new siding and a newly designed landscape.
A natural warm color palette was implemented, and Lauren curated new home furnishings through trade sources. Art painted by the homeowner’s father was used as a color palette reflected throughout. Pillows, accessories, and décor procured from West Elm and Crate and Barrel were added to complement the colors in the artwork itself.
With a hybrid work schedule, a home office was an important piece of the project. Using meticulous attention to detail, every need was anticipated to offer complete personalization and livability.
“The renovation took a bit longer than usual because of the phasing required to maintain some livable space,” Lauren notes. “At the end of the day, the owner was absolutely delighted. It was an especially rewarding project because the owner trusted me to make design choices that could provide the basis for a complete and successful transformation.”
