Steppin' Out in Style

Updated animal prints add edge to both traditional and sleek silhouettes

Colorado is home to an intrepid group of craftspeople who find great purpose in marrying form with function—and with beautiful results. Here, some of our very own furniture makers' latest masterpieces.

1. Buy the best. The easiest way to make furniture last longer is to buy the highest quality you can afford. “Pieces made of solid wood with screwed and glued construction from manufacturers with a good reputation are going to be heritage pieces,” says Brent Simon, owner of Colorado Style Home Furnishings.

If you’ve purchased home furnishings from a local showroom, chances are good they were first showcased at High Point Market, held every spring and fall in High Point, North Carolina. It’s the home design industry’s Fashion Week, where manufacturers reveal their wares to the designers and showroom owners who will share the new styles with design lovers countrywide.

Tried-and-True Blue
“We find a cooling of the palette as we move into 2012,” says Sonu Mathew, senior interior designer with Benjamin Moore, “which reflects a sense of calm inside our homes and environments.”
