 Birdsall & Co. is named after maternal ancestors of its owner, John Ludwig, who grew up in New Jersey, learning gardening from his parents and grandparents. He later earned a degree in landscape architecture. After twenty years of working in city planning, traveling, and running his own design/build landscape firm, he opened Birdsall & Co in 1988.

The business originally focused on quality garden tools and implements and a few years later became a small nursery. The inventory expanded to include pots, statuary, fountains, outdoor furniture, and interior design items, which eventually overtook the nursery. What began as 400 sq. ft of showroom space has increased to 3,700 sq. ft. with an additional 8,000 sq. ft. of outdoor area for exterior exhibits.

Today Birdsall & Co. is now known for its diverse collection of fountains and water features, Barlow Tyrie furniture, and plant containers. The store also features affordable outdoor sculpture created by local and national artists. Home and garden accessories, statuary, and gift items fill out the broad range of products that make Birdsall & Co. a unique shopping experience.
