The Colorado Garden Show's 2008 Grant & Scholarship Awards Ceremony

On Sunday, May 4 at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, the Colorado Garden Show and its board of directors awarded $336, 270 in horticulture-related grant projects throughout Colorado, from a grant to Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado for planting 1,000 trees on Arbor Day to a gathering garden for Montrose Botanical Society. Thirty-nine organizations were recognized and awarded grant checks.

“What most people don't know is that Colorado Garden Show provides scholarships and grants from proceeds generated from the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show to support Colorado's horticulture industry,” said Jim Fricke, CGS executive director. “Since the 1970s, Colorado Garden Show has awarded more than $2.5 million and in 2008 alone, we awarded $500,000 to horticulture scholarships and grant projects around the state.”

American Society of Interior Designers at the Landmark

On June 5, the members of the American Society of Interior Design came together at the Landmark—a mixed-use community in Greenwood Village that includes brownstones and manor homes, retail shops, restaurants and a movie theater—to celebrate great design and spend an evening with their colleagues. “This event is our way of giving back to our members,” says Kathy Fulscher, the ASID Membership Director, who worked with her committee, the ASID board and the Landmark to organize the event. “We look for venues that would appeal to both our commercial and residential designers. We have found that our members like good design and prefer venues like the Landmark where they can enjoy the design.”

The Landmark graciously hosted the event in their Sales Center, providing tours of their Tower One Condominium Building. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails over live music from a jazz quartet, and many of the vendors donated prizes that were given away in a drawing at the end of the evening.
