Mongolian Cashmere Blanket, ($1500/King Size, $1250/Queen Size), Scandia Down,™ The Kitchen and Linen Source, Edwards, (970) 926-1370, kitchenandlinen.com Coloradans are experts at enjoying cold weather, but we don’t want the chill to creep into our homes. Retreat to your own sanctuary of warmth with these fabulous ideas and helpful products.

Simple Solutions
Warming up your home doesn’t have to mean embarking on ambitious projects. Opt for easy changes: Paint the walls a rich color, such as Pantone’s® Pale Gold or Bruschetta, to warm up a room, and add copper or brass accents, such as cabinet pulls, for an effortless update. Accent pieces are good options, too. Think textural fabrics, comforting scents and light. Candles, lamps and mirrors can create the illusion of a glowing interior, and slipcovers in a cozy velvet or chenille can transform your couch into an inviting place to curl up with a book on a snowy day.

Sleep Tight
At night, when temperatures drop, your bed should be a welcoming cocoon. Trade your mattress pad for a luxurious featherbed, such as the Scandia Down™ Featherbed. With European down and baffle channels for maximum loft, this gem offers a sublime sleep experience. For warmth you won’t be able to resist, top the featherbed with Scandia’s cotton and silk flannel sheets and a merino wool blanket.

Little Things
When you finally manage to climb out of your ultra-cozy bed and into the shower in the morning, keep your towels toasty with a warmer. A choice of wall-mounted or free-standing models means you can find a warmer for any space to give your towel or robe that “just from the dryer” feeling. (720) 570-4488, hutterwholesale.com.

For your Feet
Cover cold floors and add energy to a room with an exquisite hand-knotted rug in bold colors and patterns. The 100-percent wool Como design by Asmara or the wool and silk Sahara design by Lapchi combine stunning beauty with comfortable warmth. If you’re remodeling, install NuHeat™ floor warming system (nuheat.com) between your sub-floor and flooring material. The radiant heat system is pre-built, like an electric blanket, so there are no loose wires. The mats can heat any size or shape room, and are effective under tile, stone, laminate and engineered-wood surfaces.

If you aren’t renovating your floors, opt for the RugBuddy,™ an electric heating mat from Speedheat (888-927-6356, speedheat.us) that slips under an area rug. Plug the mat into an outlet  for warmth that will pamper your feet.

Set the Mood
Create a focal point in a bedroom, den or kitchen with a fireplace or stove from Vermont Castings. With gas, wood and electric models, the company’s beautiful and functional designs can warm up any home. If your den or bedroom already has a fireplace, consider a Vermont Castings (vermontcastings.com) insert for a quick facelift or to transform a wood-burning system into a clean gas or electric one.

Play Outside
Don’t let the cold keep you inside. With a little thought and a few accessories, a deck or patio can be just as inviting from January to April as it is on warm summer evenings. Create a gathering spot with a firepit or outdoor fireplace. Robert H. Peterson Company’s Outdoor Campfyre (rhpeterson.com) is an excellent woodless option, but if you need the crackle and pop of wood, try a SoJoe fire pit (sojoe.com), made from hand-rolled steel with a natural rustic finish. Available in four designs, each pit comes with a spark screen, poker, cooking grill and weather cover. For the ease and cleanliness of gas, a gas insert is also available.
